Pregnancy Fitness *

Nothing brings more changes to your life than adding a new baby to your household. It’s an exciting time and can also be stressful due to the lack of sleep, lack of schedule, and lack of time you might have to spend on yourself and your diet. Over the years I have helped numerous clients throughout their pregnancies and post-pregnancy and what I have found is that my clients who stick to their workout regimen during their pregnancy and watch what they eat have a considerably easier time getting back to their pre-pregnancy weight and body compared to those who quit working out. We all know that pregnancy results in weight gain, but there are ways to avoid excessive weight gain and that is our goal.

I encourage my expecting clients to continue cardio and weight training with their doctor’s permission and modify their workouts throughout the progression of their pregnancy. Together we monitor heart rate, how they are feeling, and nutrition to ensure both mother and baby are staying healthy and feeling great.

I am a firm believer that working out through your pregnancy is the key to having an easier labor and a more enjoyable pregnancy. I worked out at Focus on Fitness, before my pregnancy and have always taken pride in staying in shape. After working with other personal trainers in the past and being unsatisfied with my results, I decided I wanted a trainer who knew how to train women and who would not make my body look too masculine and bulky.

I checked out Brenda at Focus on Fitness and really loved her method of training. I trained with her for over a year and was in great shape before I became pregnant with my fourth child. My previous three pregnancies were more difficult. I had low energy, didn't feel good about myself due to excess weight gain, and I gave in to most of my cravings. It was difficult to get back into shape afterwards.

This pregnancy was so different because I felt good about being pregnant. I had a lot of energy, continued to eat clean, and take care of my body. Brenda modified my workouts throughout my pregnancy and was always encouraging me along the way. I am thrilled to say that I was able to fit back into my regular size just three months after I delivered! I walked through Brenda's door on August 23rd 2010. I had a beautiful five month old daughter, had just celebrated my 29th birthday, and was suffering with postpartum depression. My doctor had prescribed an anti-depressant that morning for me but I was determined to get through it on my own with the help of my own endorphins, but I needed help. Brenda didn't know it that day but I was going to use every minute of the hour she gave me to get through the darkest time in my life. My sessions with her quickly became the therapy I needed to heal, not because she would listen to my problems, but because it was time I was taking for myself and I was feeling so much better and finally losing the baby weight that I couldn't seem to shake.

I continued to work with Brenda after I lost my baby weight because I believe in her training and diet and can not only credit my success to it but numerous other clients of hers that I have trained with as well.

When I became pregnant again it was easy for me to continue training with Brenda because I trusted her to monitor me and knew it would be important to my physical and mental health and well-being. Although my first trimester was difficult with morning sickness and the usual exhaustion, Brenda's workouts helped keep me moving which is what I needed. I'm two-thirds through my pregnancy now and I feel great! I have energy and don't have the body pain I had with my daughter due to the excess weight that I gained the first time. I am also in the habit of eating better which I know is good for my growing son. I would highly recommend Brenda to anyone who is not pregnant or those who plan on becoming pregnant. Her dedication to fitness, to finding what works for each individual's body and needs, and her care for each client is hard to find.

I began working out with Brenda four months after having my beautiful daughter. I was having a really hard time losing my baby weight and needed help getting motivated again. I had been out of the habit of eating clean and exercising because I hadn't watched my diet or exercised at all during my pregnancy. I regret this!

Working with Brenda to lose my baby weight has not only increased my energy but my awareness of what I eat and how it affects my waistline. I would recommend her services to any new mother wanting to get back in shape. She worked me hard but I appreciated the care she took when training me and holding me accountable to her diet.
